Since achieving independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, the diverse and vibrant Azerbaijani culture has undergone a considerable renaissance. The Azerbaijan Cultural Weekend is an attempt to redress the balance. Comprising an art and photography exhibition, music and dance performances, this is your opportunity to undergo an enriching cultural experience.
The opening part of the Azerbaijani Gala Concert will showcase traditional dances performed by the Azerbaijan State Dance Ensemble, founded in 1970. Having performed across the world, this troupe is renowned for its exemplary choreography, vibrancy and athleticism. Dances will be interspersed by traditional music performed by a mix of experienced masters and child prodigies.
Baku (capital of Azerbaijan) has gained a worthy reputation as a vibrant jazz city. And now, London audiences have a rare chance to experience one of the city’s leading bands – Bakustic Jazz. Specialising in a heady form of ethnojazz, the quartet is led by the distinguished pianist and composer Salman Gambarov.
